How zalgo text works

Zalgo text stacks lots of "combining diacritical marks" on each letter, the same marks that normally add accents like é or ñ. Pile up dozens and they spill up and down into the lines around them, creating that corrupted look. The name comes from an early-2000s internet horror meme.

Heavy zalgo can break layouts, and some apps strip it out. That's why Discord sometimes cuts it short; we cover that in why zalgo text breaks Discord.

Frequently asked questions

Is zalgo text harmful?

No, it's just characters. Very heavy zalgo can make chats hard to read, so use it kindly.

Why does Discord remove some of it?

Discord and other apps limit combining marks to protect layouts. The light style survives better.

Can I make my name glitchy?

Many platforms block combining marks in usernames. Bios and messages usually accept them.

Is it free?

Yes.
