How to use the stencil generator

  1. Type your text. Capitals work best for stencils.
  2. Choose a stencil font, then turn spray dust up or off.
  3. Download a PNG, or an SVG for a vinyl cutter or laser.

Making a real stencil to cut out

To actually cut a stencil from card, acetate or vinyl, set it up for clean edges: Paper or white background, black fill, spray dust 0%, drips 0%. Download the SVG so the lines stay crisp when you print large. The "bridges" in stencil fonts (the little gaps in letters like O, A and B) keep the middle pieces attached, so don't skip them.

Spray-painted look

For the sprayed-on-a-wall vibe, keep the concrete background and push Spray dust to 60–80%. That adds overspray around each letter, just like a real stencil with a slightly lifted edge. Add a few drips if you want it to look rushed.

Stencil font generator for printing and cutting

Use it as a free stencil generator for craft projects or a stencil font generator for signs. Writers use it as a graffiti stencil generator too. For skin, read our tattoo stencil guide first, since tattoo stencils work differently from paint stencils.

Frequently asked questions

How do I print a stencil?

Choose the Paper background and a black solid fill with spray and drips off, download the SVG, and print it at the size you need. Cut out the black areas with a craft knife.

Can I use this with a Cricut or Silhouette?

Yes. Download the SVG and import it into Cricut Design Space or Silhouette Studio. You may need to convert the text to outlines in the software.

What is a stencil font?

A stencil font has small gaps, called bridges, in the letters so the inner parts of letters like O and A stay connected when cut out.

Is it free to use commercially?

Yes. All stencil fonts here are from Google Fonts under the Open Font License.

Is this a free stencil text generator?

Yes. Type any text, choose a stencil font and download the PNG or SVG for free.
