How to Draw Bubble Letters Step by Step
Bubble letters are the friendliest lettering style there is. Kids draw them on notebooks, teachers use them on classroom walls, and graffiti writers have been painting them as throw-ups since the 1970s. The good news: the method is the same for all of them.
Step 1: Write the letter lightly
Use a pencil and write the letter in a normal, simple shape. Leave plenty of space around it.
Step 2: Draw a balloon around it
Trace around the outside of the letter at an even distance, as if you're inflating it. Round every corner. Where lines meet, like the middle of an H, make the joints smooth curves rather than sharp angles.
Step 3: Erase the guide
Erase the pencil letter in the middle. You should be left with a puffy outline.
Step 4: Squeeze them together
For a word, let each letter overlap the one before it a little. Draw the front letter fully and hide the overlapped part of the letter behind it. That squeezed look is what makes bubble lettering feel bouncy.
Step 5: Highlight and shadow
Add a small curved white line near the top-left of each letter for shine. Then add a shadow or a short 3D block on the bottom-right. Color the letters with a light-to-dark fade for extra depth.
